24 killed in Cyclone Ockhi; Fishermen aid rescue operations
According to public, 33 people from Poonthura are missing after the cyclone hurtled towards Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: The death toll in Cyclone Ockhi which hurtled the coastal areas of Kerala has reached 24, after the bodies of 11 more fishermen were recovered on Sunday.
The fishermen have jointly started rescue operations to save those who are still trapped in the sea following the cyclone. Fishermen from Vizhinjam and Poonthura themselves took initiative and left for the sea in their own boats.
Fishermen started their rescue mission on 40 boats from Poonthura. While seven dead bodies were recovered from Thiruvananthapuram. three were found in Kollam and one in Lakshadweep. But the identity is yet to be established. With the recovery of the bodies, the death toll has reached 24 in the State.
The chief minister’s office and revenue department have informed that 92 persons are still missing.
