Mumbai Crime Branch Police Arrested Four Persons from Brahmapur and Chatrapur Suspecting Underworld Connection
Bhubaneswar: Mumbai Crime Branch police arrested four persons from Brahmapur and Chatrapur of Ganjam District, Odisha on Saturday over suspected underworld links and extortion in the name of gangster Chotta Rajan and seized five number of SIM boxes used to divert international calls to local calls from Silk City Brahmapur.
According to the Brahmapur police, the arrested persons are T. Laxminarayan Sharoff, Pradeep choudhury, Suresh Kumar Satapathy and Santosh Kumar Sahu. Laximinarayan was the mastermind of the crime, who was operating SIM Boxes used to divert calls along with his associates, operating the illegal telephone exchange racket under the name of a business house S. World. Mumbai Crime Branch unearthed the criminal activities while investigating an Ransom Demand case filed at Mumbai. A dreaded gangster of Hong Kong Suresh Pujari, who is a close associate of Underworld Don Chotta Rajan has demanded two crore rupees as ransom from a Mumbai based real-estate businessman over phone. After tracing the calls Crime Branch found that, the calls were made from Brahmapur and Chatrapur of Ganjam district, Odisha and contacted with Brahmapur Police. Mumbai CB with the help of Brahmapur Police raided the business establishment of Laxminarayan and seized five China made SIM Boxes from the accused. The Additional SP, Brahmapur Trinath Patel elaborated the raid and said that, the calls were made through the SIM Boxes which automatically diverted the international calls to local calls. The SIM Box accommodates 16 to 17 SIM cards. Pujari used to call the SIM Box which was divering the calls to Mumbai as local calls. It is difficult to trace such calls as it camouflages the called identity. It comes under the Cyber Crime and it is a new kind of crime in Odisha with International ramification. Police had arrested one more member of the gang a fortnight ago from Rambha of Ganjam Police District, in this connection.
