Kunduli Gang Rape: Congress Calls for Seven Hours Koraput Bandh Today
Bhubaneswar, 16th Oct: Alleging police inaction in the gang rape incident of Kunduli in Koraput District, the Congress has called a seven-hour ‘peaceful bandh’ in the district on Monday. “The bandh will be observed in a peaceful manner. We urge the people to support the move of Congress. All government offices, schools & colleges and business establishments will remain shut. Buses, trucks and other vehicles will go off the road,” said Congress chief whip and Jeypur MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati.
In the other hand, BJP leader Jayaram Pangi extended his support to the bandh call. He said, If any outfit, political party or individual observes bandh or do something to pressurise the government, He will support personally. Recently Pangi joined BJP deserting his old association with BJD, the ruling party of the State. Meanwhile, BJD urged the Congress party to refrain from doing politics on such a sensitive issue. The Ex MLA of Jeypur and senior party leader of BJD Rabi Narayan Nanda said in a statement that, the Government is keen to take stringent action against the culprits and their arrest at the earliest. Congress should stop politicising the matter.
Meanwhile, the special team of Crime Branch returned to Bhubaneswar after visiting Kunduli health centre, Cobra jawans’ camp in Sunabeda, Ralegada BSF camp and interrogating several persons in this connection. Six days after the incident, the perpetrators are still at large even as five teams of police are investigating the case.
