MS Dhoni hits ground zero of Army’s anti-terror ops
Former Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, an honourary Lieutenant Colonel, has joined his unit as an Army personnel based in south Kashmir’s volatile district of Pulwama.
A picture of the wicketkeeper batsman Dhoni in army fatigues which has gone viral on social media showed him signing a cricket bat. He is seen with other para soldiers and some civilians clicking a picture with him.
Defence sources said Dhoni has proffered to stay with soldiers in the barracks.“He will be performing duties of patrolling among other such activities and would be staying with the troops,” they said.
The 38-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman joined the 106 Territorial Army Battalion (Para) and would stay with the unit upto August 15. The unit is part of Victor Force — Army’s counter-insurgency force in south Kashmir.
Though Dhoni’s unit is engaged with anti-militancy operations mostly in south Kashmir, there is a possibility that he may visit some of the forward areas in north Kashmir during his stay to boost the morale of soldiers.
