Odiya Boxing Coach Braja Bhusan Mohanty Received Dronacharya Award from President of India Tuesday
Bhubaneswar, 30th Aug: Odiya Boxing Coach Braja Bhushan Mohanty received the prestigious ‘Dronacharya’ award from the President of India Ram Nath Kovind at a special function held at New Delhi on Tuesday.
Mohanty, hails from Berhampur of Ganjam District, Odisha known as a disciplined man throughout his 25-year-long career as a coach. Under his guidance, several boxers have brought laurels for the country in several Asian Games, Asian Championships and National Games.
Under his guidance, boxers like Shiva Thapa, Dingko Singh, Gurucharan Singh and Vikas Krishan Yadav have clinched medals in several major events.
Mohanty was instrumental in spotting the talent in L Devendra Singh who also received Arjuna award Tuesday.
After receiving the prestigious award, Mohanty said, “A coach needs to be meticulous in imparting the basics to the boxers. The job of coach is to identify talent and nurture them so that they excel in the game.”
Following his retirement from defence service in 2013, he was appointed as the chief coach of Jharkhand boxing team.
Mohanty said, if Odisha Govt will give him a chance he would train young boxers from Odisha and prepare them for the 2020 Olympics. “I am happy to get the recognition. If my service is regularised in boxing, I want to train boxers from Odisha so that they win medals in 2020 Olympics and bring laurels for the country,” said Mohanty to media. Previously Mohanty had approached the Odisha Government, but nothing has moved in his favour so far, he said.
