Major Smuggling Racket Busted, Police Recovered Ancient Buddha Idol
Cuttack, 30th Sept: It is an achievement for the Cuttack Rural Police. On Thursday they have busted a major idol smuggling racket and recovered an ancient Buddha idol, which was stolen from Fakirpatna village under Nischintakoili police limits on July 7th. Recovery made from Mathura area of Uttar Pradesh, Cuttack rural police said. Preliminary investigations revealed that the criminals had valued the idol at around Rs 12 lakh and were also mulling to smuggle it to abroad at a price around Rs 80 lakh. A special team in coordination with Salepur and Nischintakoili police probed the incident and raided several places in Delhi to nab the culprits. A local man of Puri-Nimapara area used to provide all the informations. Earlier he was working in a lock factory at Aligarh had connections with several criminals in UP. They used to loot idols from different parts of Odisha. “After coordinating with UP police, few criminals involved in the loot incident including kingpin Suresh Yadav were arrested and they have been brought on transit remand to Odisha. After producing them in Salepur JMFC court police interrogating them, said police source.
